The North Inylchek Glacier by Sergey Melnikoff

In 2003, the famous American mountain photographer Sergey Melnikoff, a.k.a. MFF, was invited by the government of Kazakhstan to popularize the international festival held on the North Inylchek glacier at the foot of the Khan Tengri peak.
For over a month, the photography master conducted shoots at an altitude of 17,400 feet (5,300 m.), often using the personal helicopter of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, to move around. Sitting on the edge of the helicopter’s open door, Sergey tried to capture the most beautiful landscapes of this harsh and extremely inaccessible corner of the world through the camera viewfinder.
The panoramic aerial photograph presented here shows us the full power and vast expanse of the mighty multi-kilometer ice mass among the mountain ranges of the Central Tien Shan.
Glaciers are a unique reservoir of freshwater, the main source and reserve of water resources in Central Asia. The significance of glaciers in the national economy of Asian countries is enormous, as they give rise to rivers without which agriculture in adjacent desert and semi-desert areas is impossible. Many oases in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan owe their existence to them.
The Inylchek glacier is the largest and fastest glacier in Kyrgyzstan, with two branches named the North and South Inylchek. The glacier is 36 miles (58.9 km) long, with an area of 219,9 sq. miles (567.2 sq. km.) It originates in the area of the Khan Tengri peak at an altitude of more than 16,400 feet (5,000 meters) above sea level and descends to 9,186 feet (2,800 m.) The thickness of the ice at the lower part of the tongue is 500-650 feet (150-200 m.)
Experience the breathtaking beauty of North Inylchek – a wonder of nature that will leave you in awe. Marvel at the stunning panoramic views and witness the immense power of the glacier that serves as a vital source of freshwater for the region.
With its towering peaks and rugged terrain, this remote corner of the world is a photographer’s paradise, just as Sergey Melnikoff discovered. Explore the vast expanse of the Inylchek glacier and discover the unique landscapes that make it one of the most beautiful places on Earth. Book your adventure now and prepare to be amazed by the wonders of North Inylchek.
