Anna Ivanova
Anna Ivanova was born in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, in 1971. She graduated from the Tashkent State Pedagogical Institute (Art Faculty) in 1993.
The collection “Women’s Art” describes Anna Ivanova’s work as follows:
“Art created by women often carries a negative connotation, implying lower quality or a lesser status in the hierarchy of artistic values. The term ‘feminine’ can be unsettling for women artists, not only because it is sometimes used dismissively but also because defining what is truly ‘feminine’ is challenging.
However, it is precisely ‘women’s art’ that consciously highlights the social constructs of femininity in society—exploring women’s roles, their functions, and critiquing these roles. While elements of art therapy or self-expression may appear in these works, the primary intention remains the creation of new meanings in art.
The art of female artists is akin to a new type of fuel—promising, yet difficult to control and unpredictable. Its full potential is still uncertain, like the seeds or eggs of a fish—something not yet fully realized, but possessing immense strength.”
Anna has participated in numerous national exhibitions and various international projects. Notable among them:
– 2014: Participated in the project “Kitchen: Female Art Workshops” in Moscow.
– 2015: Exhibited at the “Moscow Art Fellowships” at The Museum of Moscow and “A – Art, F – Feminism: Actual Dictionary” at ISS MAG Gallery.
– 2016: Attended an art residency at Asanbay Art Center in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
– 2017: Participated in the First Moscow FEMFEST at Telegraph Hall, Moscow, and held a solo exhibition at the Skolkovo Gallery, Moscow.
– 2017: Participated in two international exhibitions in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan— “NoNoNo” at Asanbay Art Center and “Post Total” at the Gapar Aitiev Kyrgyz National Museum of Fine Arts.
– 2019: Exhibited at the “Islamic Festival” in ArtLane Gallery, Almaty, Kazakhstan.
– 2020: Won the Grand Prix at the First April Contemporary Art Competition in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
– 2022: Participated in the feminist exhibition “Meykindyk-Erkindyk” in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and the exhibition “Paxta” (“Cotton”) at the Documentary Center 139 in Tashkent.
– 2023: Exhibited “Paxta” (“Cotton”) at Aspan Gallery in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
